On June 1, 2015, Sentai announced on its website that Akame ga Kill! was picked up by Adult Swim to air in its Toonami block, nearly a week after it was announced at MomoCon 2015. Sunrise announced a licensing agreement with Sentai Filmworks on August 8, 2013, which included a number of titles from the Sunrise library previously licensed by Bandai Entertainment during the Otakon panel. In April 2018, Hidive began offering “dubcasts” to compete with Funimation`s SimulDub program.  Similar to SimulDubs, Hidive Dubs airs simultaneous dubbing of titles about two to three weeks after it first aired in Japan. Ledford was to remain the majority shareholder and CEO. ARM, a subsidiary of JCI, also planned to contribute financially to ADV to acquire new distribution licenses. The investment went to ADV Films to bring the production of new anime titles, which had fallen in 2006, to previous or higher levels. In return, ADV planned to help Sojitz acquire North American and European content for import to Japan. According to ADV, they also had “big plans” for their manga line.  Sentai Filmworks does not transfer its ownership directly outside of America, but sublicenses to other companies.
In 2011, MVM Entertainment fired Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful after Sentai re-released the series and did the same with Broken Blade.  In 2014, Sentai opened its in-house location and recording center, Sentai Studios.  Hidive, LLC (stylized as HIDIVE) is a subscription video-on-demand service focused on anime streaming. On August 1, 2019, Sentai Filmworks` parent company, Sentai Holdings, LLC, announced that the Cool Japan Fund had invested $30 million in the company`s stock, stating that “Sentai`s independent status makes it a rarity in North America as a Japanese anime licensor.”  On 30. In September 2020, the Cool Japan Fund provided an additional $3.6 million, indicating that Sentai achieved better financial results in 2019 compared to 2018, with medium- and long-term growth plans and strategic changes following the COVID-19 pandemic. The Light Music Club consists of Yui Hirasawa, Tsumugi Kotobuki, Azusa Nakano, Mio Akiyama and Ritsu Tainaka – also known as the rock band Ho-kago Tea Time. The post-production arm is Sentai Studios. Following the shutdown of Anime Network Online in 2017, Hidive LLC, a new company not affiliated with Anime Network, acquired the assets of the service and turned them into a new streaming service called Hidive.   Previous Anime Network Online subscriptions have been migrated to Hidive.  On July 21, 2017, Hidive announced that the service would offer some anime titles subtitled in Spanish and Portuguese.  Unfortunately, K-On! is not available on Crunchyroll. Hidive is the exclusive provider of selected licensed titles from Sentai and Section23. After Anime Strike shut down, Hidive started streaming titles that were previously exclusive to the old service.   It`s also free on Viewster in the U.S. and if you have an ad blocker, it ignores ads without delay. In March 2017, Sentai signed a deal with Amazon to stream the majority of its new licensees exclusively on its Anime Strike channel on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. starting with the 2017 season.  After Anime Strike was discontinued in early 2018, all titles that were previously exclusive to the service were made available to Amazon Prime subscribers in the U.S.

The series was remade in 2011, which included two different storylines. In 2009, Kyoto Animation released an anime adaptation of the first season.
