It is justified to be afraid to go to court with someone who has insulted you. Lawyers understand that the court system is not always traumatically informed or does not understand how stressful the situation can be for someone who has been abused. LAW Advocates provides free legal advice to Whatcom`s low-income individuals and families. We also provide administrative support to the Island County Volunteer Counsel Program. This important work is done through the pro bono service of local lawyers, paralegals, students and community members. Cancer lawyers advocate on behalf of people who have been diagnosed with cancer and are experiencing financial hardship, health insurance coverage and employment. Other lawyers choose to help those wrongly convicted of a crime prove their innocence. In these cases, law students are usually supervised by a law professor and handle the case as part of their legal education and training. Victims of violence may find it unsafe or unsafe to go through the justice system.
